Thanks to your generosity and a grant received from the State of Alabama, we have raised $47,000!!! Our total goal for the Brick & Mortar Updates is $70,000. We are over half way there. Progress on The House is slow, but steady. We're getting closer to being able to have volunteers on site to help with painting, moving and setting up the bookstore.
The House gave over 750 new books to TCS Librarians who are supplying students with books to read at home.
Westlawn Middle School students unload cans donated by The House Tuscaloosa for their Tuscaloosa Can build. Each year, students in the Tuscaloosa City Schools participate in a system-wide service learning opportunity and design challenge. Combining the principals of engineering and art, students work in teams to construct sculptures from canned food. Schools first investigate the problem of food insecurity and then generate a theme for their build using assorted canned goods in their design. The challenge extends beyond just the build, it's an opportunity for students to use creative problem-solving skills toward reducing food insecurity in Tuscaloosa. All canned goods collected...
